Resource Title Scenario planning for the future of adopting and creating the electric scooter industry in the Philippines
Date Issued 10 June 2020
Abstract Electric scooters, or e-scooters, are two-wheeled personal mobility devices. Personal vehicles that are marketed under this category resemble bicycles but are without pedals or traditional kick scooters.
This technology gave way to a number of benefits such as reduced carbon emissions, monetary and time savings, and traffic decongestion. However, the technology has been around for only a few years and has gained traction in the market majority in the last three years think Bird and Lime. Despite the value proposition of this new technology, it faced a number of uncertainties such as government regulations. Because of this, the project undertook scenario planning in order to understand what can happen in worst-case and best-case situations. These were then used to create a general strategy towards mass adoption and creation or expansion of the e- scooter industry in the Philippines. The project is focused on the mass adoption and creation of the e-scooter industry in the Philippines in the context of a 10-year time frame with expected participation from its end users, the general public, suppliers and businesses, and the involved government entities such as the DOTr, MMDA, and LTO.
